Philosophy & Mission Statement
Every student — regardless of age, race, gender, religion, class status, or ability — has the right to a thorough music education that provides authentic and inclusive learning experiences. Music provides students with a way to express themselves, practice teamwork skills, expand their time management skills, and develop a sense of responsibility within a community.
In the classroom, students will experience music from various cultures, providing them with windows and mirrors. Windows allow students to peek into cultures other than their own, while mirrors allow individuals to see their own culture reflected in the presented content, developing a feeling of self-worth and value.
Through varied instructional practices and sequential lessons using the generative approach, students will have the opportunity to develop these important life skills both in and out of the music room.
